From Sickly to Beautiful
December 4, 2023 I get a text from my son asking me if I can make their sickly looking Christmas tree (picture included), look decent. I ask him, “do you have the lights and decorations ready?” He responds, “No, where should I go get some good stuff?” I give him some suggestions where to go to buy Christmas Tree decorations and then ask him if he wants me to go with him? He responds, “Yup!”
We set a time to head out knowing my two grandchildren, ages six and four, will be joining us. Yes, I know, very brave (or stupid), but when Christmas Tree Decorating is involved nothing will stop me! But before he comes to pick me up, I get another text, with a picture of a second sickly Christmas Tree, that says, “Can you fix this one too?”
Off to the store we go, grab two shopping carts, one kid in each cart, in search of lights and decorations. In record time, before either child has a meltdown, we sprint up and down the aisles, filling two carts, for two different trees, with ornaments, picks, lights, tree skirts and whatever else the two munchkins throw in when we’re not looking. The first sickly looking tree will be decorated in traditional red & green, while the other will be predominately silver.
Shopping for Christmas tree decorations mission accomplished! Now back to the house to get decorating. The trees are in pretty bad shape and my son is ready to trash them and go buy two new Christmas trees. “Hold up.” I say. “Let Gigi work her magic!” A few minutes of fluffing and shaping the branches gives us something decent to work with. Once the lights are on and the tree is decorated from the tree topper to the tree skirt, we have two winners! The transformation was quite amazing, if I do say so myself!
